Instead, the Cenobites seem to be beings looking to push the limits of human experience, both in terms of pleasure and pain, to the point they're the same thing, and will offer the ultimate sadomasochistic experience to anyone who opens their box. If the following is too long to read/respond to, the meat of my question is: "Why does The Scarlet Gospels portray Cenobites as traditional demons when they were portrayed as extreme sadomasochists in The Hellbound Heart?"ĭid you always intend the Cenobites in the Hellraiser franchise to be traditional demons from a Judeo-Christian hell, as they are depicted in The Scarlet Gospels and the Hellraiser comic books you wrote fot BOOM? I ask because in The Hellbound Heart (and to a slightly lesser extent, the first Hellraiser film), they seem to be unconcerned with concepts like sin or damning souls and seem to have nothing to do with a traditional hell or Satan/Lucifer/etc.
